Oshoala Emerges Africa’s Best Player For The Fourth Time

Austin Papi

While Saido Mane claimed his first African Best Player Award for the male category, the Nigeran Super Falcons player, Asisat Oshoala, claimed her fourth African Best Player Award for the female category.

Asisat Oshoala who plays for Barcelona was voted the best women's footballer in Africa. The Nigerian superstar had been previously been crowned the winner in 2014, 2016, and 2017.

After clinching the award on Tuesday evening, December 7th, Oshoala has now equalled the record of her mentor and compatriot, Perpetua Nkwocha, who was honoured four times as CAF Best women footballer in 2004, 2005, 2010, and 2011.

From the streets of Lagos, the sweat and struggles of playing with home-based side, Robo Queens, in her early days to the glitz and glamour of playing for Liverpool and Arsenal women team, Oshoala has been on the ascendency in her career, playing for top clubs.

The Nigerian born footballer is known for her quick feet, her ability to control the ball, and score beautiful goals. Take nothing away from her talent, Oshoala is also the worst nightmare for any defence, as she is relentless in attack.

In the last 6 years, from emerging as the top scorer in the 2014 U-20 Women's World Cup to appearing at the podium of the 2020 CAF Best player award, Oshoala has elevated women's football not only in Nigeria but Africa as a whole.

She has scored over 10 goals in all competitions for the Barcelona Women team.
