Sadio Mane Named 2019 African Footballer Of The Year

Liverpool and Senegal forward, Sadio Mane, has been crowned the 2019 CAF African Player of the Year at a ceremony in Egypt.

The speedster beat his club teammate, Mohamed Salah, who won the award in 2017 and 2018, and Algerian attacker, Riyad Mahrez, to the prestigious award.

Mane who had an incredible 2019 with Liverpool came top in votes cast by head coaches/technical directors and captains of the senior national teams from CAF's member associations.

The 27-year-old was crowned the continent's best player at a ceremony in Egypt on Tuesday. He was also named in the FIFPro Africa Best XI for 2019, alongside Salah and Joel Matip.

Aside from having a successful calendar year with Liverpool, which saw him win the Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup, the Southampton man also won the 2018-19 Champions League and the Premier League Golden Boot award.

In the summer, Mane also helped his country get to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, although they lost to Algeria.
