Cavani Is A Great Player - Lampard Drops Transfer Hint

Austin Papi

Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard, has classified PSG wantaway man, Edinson Cavani, as ”a great player" after Chelsea have been linked with the striker.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have been relieved from their transfer ban and can now make signings this month.

The 32-year-old striker, who is currently out of contract in the summer, has handed in his transfer request, asking to leave the French club, Paris St-Germain.

When asked if Cavani is going to be joining Chelsea, the manager replied,

"He's a great player; I played against him and always loved his mentality and attitude, and his scoring record speaks for itself,

"I'm not absolutely aware of what the situation is, so we'll see.

"The idea of bringing in experience is something I'm certainly not absolutely looking away from, because sometimes the young players need a little bit of help, and if that's the case then that may help us."

Cavani has scored a total of 351 goals in 577 club games, 50 goals from 116 caps with his national team, Uruguay.

Since he joined PSG from Napoli for a massive £55m in 2013, the forward has netted 198 times in 292 appearances for the French champions.

He has managed a disappointing 5 goals from 14 games this season, having been relegated to the bench for the better half of the season following the arrival of former Inter Milan striker, Maurio Icardi.

After Frank Lampard's side suffered their eighth league defeat of the season in the hands of Newcastle over the weekend, it is safe to say they might be in the market for a striker to bolster their attacking options.
