The French League defending champions, Paris Saint-Germain, won their French League Cup semi-final 3-0 away to Reims to set themselves up for a final showdown at the Stade de France on April 4, with Lyon, who knocked out Lille on penalties.
On Sunday, Thomas Tuchel shuffled his squad for the French Cup finals against Lorient, the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe were unused substitutes as PSG came out victorious.
Mauro Icardi and Angel di Maria who began that game on Sunday were then sent to the bench for the Wednesday night match against Reims.
Neymar through an in-swinger, set up the first goal for his fellow Brazilian Marquinhos, who outleaped all Reims’ defenders and guided a powerful header into the roof of the net before the Reims goalkeeper, Predrag Rajkovic could even get to it.
After 31 minutes, Neymar again swung in another free-kick, aiming for Marquinhos yet again but the centre-back missed the ball. The missed ball fell in the path of Reims’ defender, Alaixys Romao, who accidentally nodded it toward his own goalpost where Reims’ fullback, Ghislain Konan, slid the ball into his own net in an attempt to clear it.
Neymar entertained the PSG supporter with a dazzling display, while Mbappe was booked for a late handball, capping one of the quietest 90 minutes of his career.
Reims’ midfielder, Marshall Munetsi, received a straight red card for illegally upending Marco Verratti in the 73rd minute of the game. Four minutes later, PSG substitute, Nianzou Kouassi, forced a rebound Into the net, making it three to PSG and no replies from Reims.
