My Players Are Still Not Understanding Things - Barcelona Coach

Austin Papi

Barcelona’s new coach, Quique Setien, looks to be hitting the nails on his players following the 2-0 loss to Valencia.

During the post-match conference, he was implying that the team lost at Valencia because they had not understood his instructions well.

The 61-year-old took over the Camp Nou outfit two weeks ago after Ernesto Valverde was sacked despite being top of league.

Setien had this to say about the match:

”The truth is we were not very good,

”Especially in the first half. We could not find a way to break them down. There were things that we have not understood properly and Valencia took advantage of our errors.”

When he was asked if the loss to Valencia was as a result of the players attitude on the pitch, Setien replied,

”It was not an attitude problem. We were not well positioned. We played a lot of passes without any sense to them, just for the sake of playing them.

”They (Barcelona Players) are still not understanding things or perhaps we are not explaining them well.”

In Quique Setien's first game in charge of Barcelona, last week, the team had made over 1,000 passes but only had six chances and needed a 76th minute Lionel Messi goal to win against Granada at the Camp Nou.

Also, in their midweek cup game at Ibiza, Barcelona failed to register a single shot on target in the first half.

This tie against Valencia was touted as Setien's first real test and he saw his side fail.
