Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, has notably put his club rivalry aside to help baptize Manchester United midfielder Fred's wife, Monique Salum, in an emotional ceremony.
The two players are not only rivals in the English Premier League, but they are also on the Brazil national team together. They are both known to be devout Catholics and are most times seen praying on the pitch with their head’s up before and after football matches.
Alisson also assisted in baptizing his teammates and Liverpool forward, Roberto Firmino, earlier this year. He did the same thing as he helped dunk her (Monique) head under the water in the traditional manner to symbolize the baptism and cleansing of one's spiritual self.
Fred’s wife posted a video of the occasion on her Instagram. In the video, a gospel singer accompanied her while Alisson who was overwhelmed with emotions helped dip her into the pool. Afterwards, they all hugged.
“This day! The day that will always be marked in my heart and soul. The day of my encounter with Jesus Christ, where I felt his presence and felt that it was the most certain and importance choice in my life,” she wrote.
“I could not fail to thank my dear friends @natalialbecker and @alissonbecker who introduced me to life in Christ Jesus and with their testimonies has been transforming the lives of everyone around them, including mine!
"Thank you for making me feel true love. You are a blessing in our lives! Thank you God, for doing your works in my life. I serve you!"
