Everyone Hates You If You Are An England Player - Pickford

Everton came out victorious over Crystal Palace but the Everton goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, was a target of criticism.

The goalie also claimed that his role as England’s number one behind the sticks has made him the target of unfair criticism.

Pickford let Christian Benteke’s efforts slip under him and into the back of the net to give Crystal Palace the initial equaliser in Everton’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in a Premier League tie played on Saturday.

Former Manchester United defender and controversial television pundit, Gary Neville, notably slammed Pickford in September for laughing when Everton were 3-1 down against Manchester City, while other pundits highlighted Pickford’s patchy form over the last 18 months.

Speaking to a British media outlet, Pickford noted: “Everyone hates you, for some reason, that’s part of being an England player.

“I think the press and everybody, the punters, look at Gary Neville - they just want to come for England players ... as a person, I don’t let it affect me.”

Concerning the latest error committed in Everton's last match against Crystal Palace, Pickford explained that it happened because his leg was getting stuck in the grass and he was lucky to escape injury.

“I’ve watched the goal. I’m lucky I haven’t done my cruciate (knee ligaments), to be honest. My foot planted, I couldn’t get my leg out. It was stuck,” he said.
